What are Parenting Plans in Florida?
In Florida, cases in which child custody issues are being decided, the court will enter a parenting plan. Simply put, a parenting plan is document that will govern the relationship between the parents as it relates to decisions regarding the child and must also contain a time sharing schedule. The time sharing schedule will set forth the time, including overnights and holidays, in which the child will spend with each parent.
The issues that will be touched upon in the parenting plan may include, but are not limited to, the child’s education, health care, and physical, social, and emotional well-being. The court will also look at the relationship between the parents when creating the parenting plan.
It is wise to be as specific as possible when creating a parenting plan so there is no later misunderstandings as to the rights and responsibilities of each parent. Even though it may seem intrusive to do, this will save a lot of time and potential arguments later on.
